Super Macro - getting ready for snowflake photography. ❄️

I'm excited to be getting everything set up to start photographing snowflakes this year. I asked for a Raynox MSN-202 for Christmas and it has already came in.  I'll need a focus rail and some glass or glass microscopic slides also. I'm using my darkroom enlarger as a copy stand. I had planned on buying the Snow Studio from David Runyan but he is upgrading the design completely and isn't selling them this year.
I plan on using a few different types of lighting. Including, but not limited to, having taped the Raynox filter adapter to my Canon Ring Lite, using small LED flashlights taped to a couple of Manfrotto clamps I use for flashes normally, I'll use some type of bags or lids to color and diffuse the lighting from these, and natural lighting if it works. I'll see what types of lighting I like and what doesn't work (melts the snow).
I also have +4 and a +10 close-up filters that fit right onto the back of the Raynox that will get more magnification but I will lose more DOF and possibly will get some fringing. I'm excited to try it out though.
I'm testing my set-up now.  This image is of a very tiny (less than 1/4 of an inch) dried weed flower. I used the darkroom enlarger stand, 2 second delay on the shutter, f16, Aperture Priority, Canon ring lite - photographed with the modeling light, Canon 100mm L macro lens with Raynox MSN-202, Canon 5D MarkIII.
I just looked up and it's snowing out right now.  It's not cold enough for the snow to not melt but yay!

Beautiful Kentucky Wedding - June 21st, 2014 Matt & Karla

Matt & Karla's beautiful June Wedding in Kentucky.  This bride and groom originally had an outdoor wedding and reception planned.  With the threat of rain in the forecast they changed the wedding location one day before they were to wed.  They had a beautiful backup plan and the weather turned out to be gorgeous so we were able to get some great outdoor shots before their reception inside.  With lots of love, candles and twinkling lights their wedding day was magical.

I'm so happy it's spring and flowers are blooming, new foals are in fields and it's warm enough to spend time outside.

Just a few spring flower images.

Photo of the Week

This one is from my wonderful trail ride on Monday! This is Reba...the smoothest little Spotted Mountain horse I've ever rode and strong and tough as can be! I've never been able to get clear shots while on horseback until riding this little mare. I took photos from horseback all day! :)

National Coverage for Trash The Dress Shoots

How cool, we're getting National Coverage for our art and this isn't the first time and won't be the last! What fun! 2010 is going to be an amazing year for us and our brides. Think about getting that dress out after your wedding day for some extra special images taken with all of the stress of your wedding day behind you. Some dresses get dirty, how dirty is all up to you! We have actually found that most dresses can be washed on the gentle cycle in your washing machine and come out perfectly white and in pristine condition. Of course, that depends upon the design, design elements and the style of dress. That being said, not all of our brides actually 'trash' their dress or even get them very dirty during our shoots. If you are interested in this type of shoot...give me a call and ask about the Elegant Artistic Bridal Session. 859/200-6945

Great Week and Beautiful Weather to top!

It has been a great week here. I have talked to several brides-to-be about their weddings and even talked to a father of the bride. It is always fun to see the dad's get involved in their daughter's big day.

I can't wait to see what 2010 has in store! Brides, grooms, flowers, rings, dresses and many other things! Don't forget your something borrowed, something blue, something old and something new!

Pretty soon you'll drive down beautiful winding roads past lush green pastures with wood plank fencing filled with new mothers and foals. Kentucky is the horse capitol of the world and you will find horse breeds from the Thoroughbred to the Kentucky Mountain horse and everything in between. Maternity

I love being a mom and love photographing pregnancy! What a lovely time in your life to have artistic, memorable photographs taken.

Elegant Artistic Brides

Over the summer we have had the honor to photograph many brides in their gowns. We even went to Florida to photograph 4 brides on the beach in the surf! Two brides rode horses in their gowns and one posed with a huge, lovely Fresian in a Fantasy Bridal shoot! What a great summer 2009 has been for me! I hope to have an even better year in 2010. Look for us in the coming year!

Rolex Kentucky International Event 2009

Rolex Kentucky proofs are up! Listed by day. We are working on sorting them by rider.
My main Rolex page is here.
Danita Rogers of White Horse Studios would like to congratulate Lucinda Fredericks the winner of the 2009 Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event! The first to take the Rolex win in the new stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Day one and two are beautiful, quiet and in sync Dressage. Day three is Cross Country and day four is Jumping. I can't wait until the 2010 Rolex Event!
